Reckless politicking risks derailing anti-graft war say Kisii leaders

A section of Kisii county leaders have asked the Deputy Governor Joash Maangi to resign from the county government if his fight against corruption is genuine.

This comes after the Deputy Governor accused Governor James Ongwae and his counterpart in neighbouring Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama of hiding behind Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i clout to avoid being questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on corruption cases in the two counties.

Speaking in Kisii town, George Bibao a former MCA from Bomachoge Borabu asked the deputy governor to resign and join the public in fighting corruption in the county.

“If our deputy governor is genuine, let him do what the formerNairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe did and that way he will help the government catch the big fish in our county,” said Bibao.

Elkana Nyandoro also a former MCA described the Deputy Governor as an attention seeker: “He wants to be the governor by all means so that it can go down in history that he was once a governor of Kisii County.”

Elkana Nyandoro said Maangi is politicising the fight against corruption by lying to the Kisii community, “We thank the Deputy Governor for admitting that there are a lot of corruption in the County government, but for Maangi to fight this, he must get out of the government.

“We have filed so many claims in the EACC offices and even told the Deputy Governor about but he has done nothing … it has taken him almost seven years for him to admit this,” said Nyandoro.
