About Us

Shining a light on corruption, state capture and political patronage in East Africa.

East Africa is a region of great economic potential. However, with African countries losing an estimated US$50 billion annually to illicit financial flows, corruption remains one of the largest barriers to sustainable economic growth and the upliftment of its people.

While 41 per cent of the continent remain in poverty, 1 in 4 Africans report having to pay a bribe to access public services and Transparency International’s Global Corruption Barometer – Africa 2019 found that more than half of citizens surveyed believe their nation is becoming more corrupt. Moreover, in countries such as Kenya and Uganda two-thirds of people fear retaliation if they speak up about corruption, so it often goes unreported
